Membership Categories

SMACNA offers several categories of membership, including regular membership available to signatory sheet metal contractors that install, fabricate, manufacture, or service HVAC, industrial duct systems, architectural sheet metal applications, or sheet metal products.

Residential Standards

Publications include Residential Sheet Metal Guidelines and Residential Comfort Systems Installation Standards Manual.

Is Training Time Compensable Under The Fair Labor Standards Act?

This paper explores scenarios that illustrate how the regulation has been applied by the Department of Labor.  Chapters and members should be aware that it is possible that training time not compensable under the FLSA may still be regarded as compensable hours of work by the local union.

Communication Across the Generations: Generation Everyone

HVAC Duct Construction App

This app allows you to create table driven solutions using the methods and formulas covered in SMACNA’s HVAC Duct Construction Standard (Metal and Flexible). The app will provide SMACNA compliant options for rectangular duct with dimensions up to 120-inches for applications to ten-inch water gage (positive or negative).

Technical Standards

Technical standards and manuals developed by SMACNA members have worldwide acceptance by the construction and code community, as well as local and national government agencies. ANSI, the American National Standards Institute, has accredited SMACNA as a standards-setting organization. SMACNA standards and manuals address all facets of the sheet metal and HVAC industry – including duct construction and installation, indoor air quality, energy recovery, roofing and architectural sheet metal, welding, and commissioning.

Withdrawal Liability and the Sale of a Business

Generally, when a contractor sells its business, it either sells the stock of the business or it sells the assets of the business. The sale of stock does not constitute a withdrawal from a multiemployer pension plan, and if stock is sold, there need be no accommodation for withdrawal liability as part of the sale transaction.

Rapid Response Protocol

The Committee has worked to develop a template of policies and procedures that will foster an inclusive environment within the industry. It is our belief that by fostering a work environment free of bias our industry will be better able to retain our current talent, as well as recruit new talent to the workforce. These policies and procedures are intended to be a template and guide. Local areas are urged to work with their legal counsel to ensure that local laws are being followed.

NJAB Article X, Section 8 Submittal Forms

Parties wishing to have a contract renewal or specialty addenda dispute heard by the NJAB should make a submission on the approved Article X §8 forms. Please note, there are no approved forms for making a submission under SFUA Article X §10.
