SMACNA’s System Air Leakage Test Standard: Aspects to Testing an Entire HVAC System

This session covered SMACNA’s newest standard, the System Air Leakage Test Standard (SALT) and gave a brief history of how and why testing ductwork and the system has changed over time. 

This session reviewed what is required by various codes and energy standards and where the SMACNA Technical staff believes things are headed in the future.  Other topics covered included:

• Consistencies with previous SMACNA standards
• What is new or different in this standard
• How to handle specifications that are in direct conflict with this standard

Several examples were provided to better illustrate the topics mentioned above.
