SASMI is a national benefits fund for the sheet metal workers that provides Supplemental Unemployment Benefits (SUB Benefits) and Underemployment Benefits. This announcement explains how the Retiree Health Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA), which became effective in 2014, works.
The HCRA benefit replaces the Vacation Benefit, which was terminated in 2013. The HCRA is designed to provide credits, in amounts similar to the amounts that were provided under the prior Severance Benefit (discontinued in 2009) that may be used by eligible participants after retirement to reimburse medical, hospital and other eligible benefits.
