Impostor syndrome, a prevalent phenomenon characterized by feelings of intellectual fraudulence, is a significant challenge faced by professionals across various industries, particularly those in the trades. This workshop aims to address the detrimental effects of impostor syndrome, such as burnout, self-doubt and hindered success, which can impede personal and professional growth. Drawing from personal experiences, including my transition from education to sheet metal fabrication and witnessing my husband's journey from the shop floor to company leadership, we will explore how self-doubt can inhibit even the most competent individuals. Through interactive discussions and activities, attendees will gain insights into recognizing and overcoming impostor syndrome, thus empowering them to pursue their goals with confidence.
In the trades, individuals often possess technical expertise but may hesitate to step into leadership roles due to impostor syndrome. However, the need for union sheet metal workers in leadership positions, advocating for labor rights and driving business improvements, is paramount. This workshop will encourage participants to confront their self-doubt and embrace leadership opportunities, both within their companies and in broader industry initiatives. By fostering a supportive environment and providing practical strategies for overcoming impostor syndrome, this session aims to unlock the full potential of attendees, ensuring that their expertise is recognized and utilized effectively in advancing their careers and the industry as a whole.
