Guidelines for Change Orders

Many factors can result in project changes. A poorly-defined scope of work or gaps in the scope may mandate corrective changes. Unforeseen conditions or delays related to the conduct of other parties may trigger significant changes in schedule or cost. A re-design can radically impact the scope. A subcontractor may go bankrupt and its work be reassigned to other project participants. The only certainty is that contractors and subcontractors must deal effectively with change in order to survive and be profitable. Contractors and subcontractors must become adept at dealing effectively with change in order to survive and be profitable. This manual will help the SMACNA contractor do just that.

Scaffold Compliance Manual

This manual covering the OSHA Standards for Scaffolds - Subpart L of the 1926 Standards for Construction provides a basic overview of this regulation. Contains specifics on some of the common scaffolds used in the sheet metal and air conditioning industry. Includes compliance checklists that can be used as jobsite inspection forms.

Press Brake Safety Compliance Kit

This kit consists of an employer's reference manual that contains all of the elements necessary for establishing an effective program of alternative methods of point of operation protection on power press brakes to comply with OSHA's compliance directive CPL 2-1.25. The manual contains a sample policy statement, provides a detailed program of safe operating procedures including photographs, and lists training requirements. Also contains a sample training certification form. The Safe Operating Procedures Training Video goes step-by-step through the safe operating procedures on the power press brake.

SMACNA Bubble DVD Destroys Design Myths

The Bubble Video—so called because it uses helium-filled bubbles to visually illustrate airflow through a duct system that is fitted with a clear plastic side—has been revised in modern digital video format. The new video is available on DVD. A number of duct fittings are used to illustrate airflow movement variations through a duct system. The video also references both the SMACNA HVAC Systems Duct Design and HVAC Duct Construction Standard to tie actual airflow performance to the “flat” drawings and commentary within both manuals. The video is intended as an educational tool for designers and engineers to illustrate how good duct design and careful planning to avoid conflicts can be used to improve airflow and reduce one of the largest energy users in commercial-class buildings—HVAC system fan power. The running time for the video is 15 minutes.
